MEET THE WKMP STUDENT TEACHERS

 

Who we are:

The CCM student teachers are enthusiastic, dedicated music

students who seek to bring new musical opportunities to elementary students who wouldn't have them otherwise. 

 

Teachers work in teams to deliver 45-minute classes once a week. These classes teach the basics of rhythm, singing, instrumentation, and general music appreciation. 

Erica Cherry

Erica Cherry is entering her second year teaching for WKMP, and is excited to continue working with the program. She is seeking her MM in Clarinet Performance, and has taught both piano and clarinet. She believes that outreach, teaching, and performing are all important parts of being a musician.

Helen Sun

Helen Sun is an aspiring music teacher from China seeking her AD in Viola Performance. She has 3 years experience teaching violin and viola, and loves teaching music. 

Jessie Huang

Jessie Huang is a Viola Performance student from Taiwan seeking her Artist’s Diploma. She feels that it is important to begin kids in music programs as early as possible. She brings to WKMP a strong enthusiasm for childhood education.

Jack Bogart

Jack Bogart is a freshman at CCM seeking his BM in Violin Performance. He is from Cincinnati, and has experience teaching Irish music at the Riley School. He loves to teach, and is excited to have the opportunity to teach classical music.

Katie Garringer

Katie Garringer is seeking her Master's of Music in Oboe Performance. She has been studying music since she was 7 years old, and picked up oboe in middle school. This is her second year working with WKMP, and she is constantly inspired by the kids' energy and resilience in the face of adversity.

Robell Sahle

 

Robell Sahle, from Laurel, Maryland, is working towards his Bachelor’s degree in Viola Performance. His interest in working with WKMP stems from his belief that teaching is the way to pass on traditions. He looks forward to the fun and the challenges that WKMP presents.

Sarah Taylor

Sarah Taylor brought the Whiz Kids program to CCM Prep, and made WKMP what it is today. She is seeking her Artist's Diploma in Bassoon Performance, and has been working with WKMP since 2011. She believes in the important role music outreach programs serve, both for the elementary school students and the CCM students involved. 

Ani Pendergrass

Ani is from Victorville, California, and is seeking her Masters in Music degree in violin performance. Before joining WKMP, Ani taught for the String Project at the University of Redlands. Ani enjoys working with children and teaching music.

 

Rebecca Johnson

Rebecca Johnson is seeking her MM in clarinet performance. She is from Fairfax, Virginia, and this is her first year in Cincinnati. She has taught music at daycamps, and loves working with children. She believes that, as a musician, it is her job to share her musical experience with others. 

Owen Alderson

 

Owen Alderson, from Harvard, Massachutes, is currently pursuing his Bachelor's of Fine Arts in Dramatic Performance. He believes that music education stimulates creativity and encourages self-discipline, especially in children. In high school, he served as Co-Head of his school's chapter of Artists Striving to End Poverty, an organization which connects disadvantaged youth with opportunities in the arts

Jeany Hsieh 

Jeany Hsieh is currently seeking her DMA in Violin Performance. This is her first year working with WKMP, and she is excited at the opportunity to meet students from a different culture. She has been studying music for over 20 years, and is a voice character in several Disney productions in Taiwan. 

Grace Hartman

Grace Hartman is currently pursuing her Bachelor’s degree in Cello Performance. She began working with WKMP last spring, and believes music has the ability to save lives. In addition, she thinks that WKMP’s classes can help the students to develop discipline, focus, and responsibility.

Michelle Brandstetter

Michelle Brandstetter is a fourth year Journalism student at the University of Cincinnati. She is in charge of maintaining the WKMP Facebook, Twitter, website, and blog, as well as any other online presence. She played flute in high school, and has always loved music. She believes that music education is an important stepping stone for anyone, whether they go on to pursue music or not.
